Melted_Realities
The artwork “Melted_Realities” by artists and students of the Nevin Aladağ class at the Dresden University of Fine Arts, Theresa Haupt and Karola Konieczny, takes the otter figures by Bruno Ziegler erected in front of the Chemnitz municipal baths in 1935 as a starting point to sensibilise visitors of the exhibition as well as the bath for their urban surroundings and nature. The figures are symbolically removed from their original location on the flagpoles and are now seeking refuge in the public baths. This new environment becomes their habitat and the animals themselves become a warning symbol for their environment. The colour orange is a stark contrast to their original form and at the same time a warning sign. This transformation makes the viewer aware of environmental changes, adaptation and the extinction of species. The work also emphasises how vulnerable nature and all its creatures are to changing environmental conditions and the dangers of adapting to them.
The Stadtbad Chemnitz is open on Mondays from 3 pm to 8 pm, Wednesdays from 6:30 am to 2 pm, Thursdays from 2 pm to 8 pm and Sundays from 9 am to 4 pm.
